Theater Stap is a theatre company which makes productions that revolve around people who are mentally disabled. Its artistic quality gives it a legitimate and unique position in the regular theatre circuit.

Theater Stap believes that performing artists who are mentally disabled have qualities that can move people. The company’s close cooperation with the Kasteel Day-Care Centre guarantees a perfect environment for these actors to develop their talent and build up their individual artistic careers. Stap and Kasteel organise a workplace where people who are mentally disabled and non-disabled theatre-makers and professionals can meet each other.

By working with guest directors and choreographers and by means of ongoing education and training, the players experience a variety of methods and views on theatre and so work towards a production. It is a constant challenge to explore new possibilities and provide new perspectives.
The course taken by Theater Stap is in part guided by its many external theatre-makers, teachers and designers, so that through its productions the company keeps the broad theatre debates alive.

The two organisations, Stap and Kasteel, invest in a permanent company of actors. The actors choose to spend several years training in the performing arts. Productions are created with passion and expertise and the authenticity of the actors comes first and foremost. To this end the actors have to develop into independent, communicative individuals who can draw on fascinating life experiences and who take responsibility within the group.
